What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam & Fitting
A contact lens exam goes beyond a routine eye exam to check that your lenses fit comfortably and effectively. During your exam, we’ll:
- Assess your overall eye health and vision needs
- Measure the curvature of your eyes for the best lens fit
- Discuss your lifestyle preferences to recommend the right type of lenses
Our team prioritizes your comfort and vision needs with a thorough exam and personalized fitting process.

Types of Contact Lenses
At Steamboat Vision Clinic, we handle everything in-office. From the initial exam to the fitting, you’ll get the personalized, expert care you deserve without needing to visit multiple locations.
We’ll work closely with you to find and order the right contact lenses. We fit a variety of lenses to meet your unique vision requirements.
Soft & RGP Lenses
Soft contact lenses are known for their comfort and flexibility, making them a popular choice for most people. These lenses are easy to wear, mold comfortably to the shape of your eye, and provide clear vision.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses, also known as hard lenses, are made from durable materials that allow oxygen to pass through to the eye. These lenses are known to provide clarity and sharpness, making them a great option for individuals with specific vision needs like astigmatism, irregular corneas, or those requiring high-precision vision.
Toric Lenses
Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism, a vision condition where the cornea has an irregular shape, causing blurry or distorted vision. These lenses have different powers in different meridians of the lens, allowing them to stay properly oriented and provide clear, consistent vision.
Toric lenses are available in both soft and rigid forms.
Aspheric Lenses
Aspheric lenses are designed to provide sharper, clearer vision by reducing distortion, especially in higher prescriptions. The shape of the lens is flatter and more gradual than traditional spherical lenses, which helps improve peripheral vision and reduce glare.
Multifocal Lenses
Multifocal contact lenses are ideal for individuals with presbyopia, a condition that occurs as people age and lose the ability to focus on objects up close. These lenses have multiple prescriptions built into one lens, allowing you to see clearly at varying distances, from reading to driving.
Hybrid Lenses
Hybrid contact lenses combine the best of both worlds—offering the comfort of soft lenses with the clarity and stability of rigid gas-permeable lenses. The central part of the hybrid lens is made from a rigid material, providing sharp vision, while the outer skirt is made from a soft lens material, offering comfort and flexibility.
Contact Lens Hygiene & Care
Maintaining proper hygiene is essential for comfortable and safe contact lens wear. During your contact lens exam and fitting, we’ll guide you on how to:
- Properly insert, remove, and care for your lenses
- Clean and store your lenses to avoid irritation and infection
- Replace lenses as recommended for the best results
